My two year old daughter thoroughly enjoys the discovery kits from Baby Einstein. She’s an ‘outdoorsy’ girl, just like her Mom, so she greatly appreciates the rich videos and the accompanying board books. She has been a Baby Einstein fan since she was younger than one year (I started with the books and the music cds). I would highly recommend these products. They’re entertaining, educational and the pace and music are appropriate for babies and toddlers.

I am not sure if this is going to make him the smartest person out there, but I didn’t buy the DVDs for that reason. These cartoons are slow enough and interesting enough that my 20 month old will actually sit with me for 35 minutes straight and watch them with me. For this reason I love them, because it allows me to talk about what is happening throughout the entire show, name things, describe the situations, or count ….and he is genuinely interested in what I am saying. There are no other “educational” cartoons on TV (such as sesame street) or slow cartoons (such as Thomas the train) that he will watch for more than 1-2 minutes at a time and there is really no opportunity for me to talk with him about the content. I would say though, that there is no program out there that can take the place of quality time spent reading, playing, and hugging your child-those are the best things for any human being to develop.

My child is four years old and still asks to see them now and them. She enjoys them, plain and simple. I am a big believer in letting a child develop at their own pace.

They usually point you in the direction of how they learn by displaying their likes and dislikes. As always, it’s okay in moderation.

Anyone who thinks they can turn their child into a genius by forcing these learning products on them is robbing them of their own natural growth and development. Slow down! They will be as smart as their brain allows them!
