The problem is Chase is not your buddy. This is a business relationship. You have to get what you need out of them with as little collateral damage as possible, You have to play the game so that you win and not get screwed. Im not trying to be self-righteous but you simply CANNOT be late at all with credit card payments, especially in this economic environment. You are asking for trouble. Im just calling a spade, a spade.
Yes. It is your fault if you dont read the terms of your contract. If you pay your balance in full each month and on time, the 29. 99% apr means nothing to you because you would carry no balance.
Chase is the WORST bank ever!!! If you sneeze while your talking to them they charge a fee, They WILL not work with you at all!!!! Odd how when they make bad bad judgements they get bailed out by US but when we want some help from them they basically tell you. hahahaha to bad so sad we got your bail out money and now its costing you 30%
part3 (sorry!)This is where it gets weird. . . I email them 7x pleading to resolve & FINALLY get somewhere. They tell me they will remove the late charge! I plead some more & “We will remove the finance charge! All is good & then. . . I get an email saying my card is on hold for fraudulent charges. I am told there has been over $3k in charges that I didn’t make! They cancel my card & tell me they will issue a new one. Now what about the refunds Are those lost? This all sounds fishy to me!
continued. . the November payment by a few days. When I contacted Chase they told me it was my fault and my “spam filter” probably deleted it! (even though told them I receive their offers and all the other emails without issue) They didn’t care that I paid off my monthly balance for the last 130+ months without a single problem. They were hitting me for a $40 LATE FEE and $60 FINANCE CHARGE. $100 for a 3 day late payment which was paid in full even before I called them. They were rude too!
Unfortunately this is becoming the norm for many CC companies. I just recently had a problem with my Chase VISA. Listen to this. . I haven’t missed a single payment in the 11 year history of this card. I chose “paperless billing” so I rely on their email notifications to let me know when the bill is ready to pay. I always pay off the complete balance, usually weeks before I need to. Well, they neglected to send an email in November and with the holidays I lost track of things and missed. .
Steve,Exact same thing happened to me. I had mailed a payment, but wasn’t sure if it would get there on time. Went on the web to schedule a payment just in case. Made a mistake in punching in my account number. They charged a “late” payment and jacked my interest rate to 29. 99%. My other payment got there ON TIME and they still wouldn’t budge on their RIP-OFF POLICIES! Paid the account off. I’m done with them and telling EVERYONE I KNOW!
My card is a Visa AFBA by 5 star bank. I was late two times and they waved my penalties – and they never raised my rates. Thanks for the input. I’m very glad I never got a Chase Card.
Unfortunately, the companies won’t really look @ how you’ve done before lol. The contracts currently (before the new credit card regulation) allowed any bank to change the rate to anything. Claiming “Default” and the interest rate would go to 29. 99 or 36. 99 is the highest I have seen. Read that fine print carefully. If the bank says they can change it for whatever reason they mean it! Although it will be much harder for them to do once the new regulation take hold.
