I bought the YBCR when my daughter was 10 months old. She is now 2.5 and is reading books like the llama llama series. She reads all the words in the program AND knows exactly what all those words mean. I don’t understand what people say when they say the kid can read only if they know what the word means. When I see a new word, I need to go to a dictionary sometimes to find out what the word means and then I memorize the meaning. I know how to read but I still need someone to tell me what the meaning is if it’s a word i’ve never heard of before. The program teaches your child the word and then shows them what the word means so my child can read rhinoceros and could point it out to you if she saw a picture of one. The reason I know the word Giraffe is an animal with a long neck is because someone told me that early in my life and I memorized it, not because I read the word out and just knew what it was. I believe my daughter learned alot from the program and I’m happy with that, I don’t believe she’ll be Einstein but that’s not what I’m expecting.
By: Mary

I rented a Avis car via Priceline for Oct. 14-17, 2011. I picked up the car in the evening of Oct. 14. As I drove to my destination, I had to pass through two tolls.

At the toll booth, I went through the “Cash” lanes rather than the “E-Z Pass” lanes. The first toll ($6.50) I paid with no associated problems. When I drove up to second toll ($1.75), the toll collector said the toll was automatically paid. It was only then that I discovered that there was an “E-Z Pass” devise mounted behind the rear view mirror. I indicated to the toll collector that I wished to pay the toll. The collector indicated that this toll was already paid and could not be reversed.

Please note I did not request a car with said devise; nor did I see it was there as it was dark (at night) and hidden behind the rear view mirror.

A few weeks later I noticed a charge of $9.25 from Avis on my credit card: $1.75 for the toll unpaid by me and a $7.50 service charge. I called Avis and explained all the aforementioned details. I indicated I was willing to pay $1.75 charge that I legitimately incurred but that I was not willing to pay the$7.50 service charge.

I was told I had to pay. I complained that I did not request the toll devise and that I was not even aware it was in the car until the toll was already paid. I indicated this was an unfair practice and, essentially, a fraudulent use of my credit card. The Avis personnel indicated that paying toll charges was my accountability as it was in the rental agreement contract. I did not dispute that assertion; however, I did reiterate my complaint about the service charge. The Avis personnel indicated they would refund $5.00 of the service charge but not the whole amount.

It is very apparent that Avis is conducting a scam on their customers in the hopes that their victims will not bother to fight the issue. The fact that they will refund part but not all of their fraudulent “service charge” is further proof of their shabby business practice.

Bought YBCR for my daughter when she was 3.5 yrs old, which by YBCR standards was a little late. Like some of the comments made, much of what you get out of it depends on what you put into it. If you “plop” your child in front of the TV and don’t participate in your own child’s education you will likely be disappointed. Conversely, if you follow the directions and “teach” your child for 30-45 minutes a day you will be shocked at how quickly and easily they will start to read. My daughter was reading by the time she was 4, is now 5 starting kindergarten this year, and was screened for reading at the 2nd grade level. Professional educators (I’m one of them) don’t want to admit that there is a better way. They condemn YBCR as a scam that is nothing more than rote memorization, recommend teaching phonics, or some other such nonsense. I’m a high school teacher and I can tell you with unwavering conviction that our educational system in this country is failing our children, in part because a lot of teachers are too entrenched in their thinking. Public education in particular in this Country needs a major overhaul. We learn more everyday about how kids learn. YBCR is a quantum leap in teaching kids to read. If you don’t think so, I’d like to introduce you to a 5 year old that would convince you otherwise. There might be other ways to teach kids to read that are just as fast and effective, but if there are those methods are lost on a lot of our kids. The price is a bit steep for some families, but well worth it at twice the price in my opinion. Especially when you consider that the a lot of the kids in my daughter’s kindergarten class still won’t know how to read at the end of the school year. Buy it, follow the directions, you won’t be sorry.
By: Teacher and Father

My experience in class was good. The only thing I did not like was the Learning Team and one instructor was was out to lunch the whole class.

I am 63 unemployed and living on Social Security. I enrolled in the University of Phoenix after being told by the Apollo School counselor that financial aid would take care all course cost. I finished three courses and still was give no information on financial aid.

I was deceived by the University of Phoenix. Before enrolling me in that 4th class they should have told me that financial aid would not cover the class. I would not have had to drop the class. They enrolled me in the course because they wanted the $1,700+ more than they wanted to be honest with me about the class cost.
